Completed Project
Ealing Unity Meals is a community-driven initiative designed to benefit residents across Ealing and the surrounding areas. Our team has a long standing commitment to service, from sponsoring food for Age UK Ealing to supporting local charities through social media outreach. One of our members is also a regular blood donor, reflecting our shared belief in giving back wherever possible.
1. Who are we?
I’m proud to be an individual entrepreneur who started my business over three years ago right here at this location in west Ealing. My passion for cooking began long before that — I grew up assisting and supporting my Dad (RIP), who inspired my love for food and hard work. Every dish I prepare carries a piece of that journey, and I’m grateful for all the support from our wonderful customers, friends and local authority.
2. What we delivered
Hot meals and drinks were prepared fresh, with the same portions we proudly serve to our paying customers. Many of our vulnerable clients were truly appreciative, and their smiles meant a lot to us.
My marketing manager dedicated so much of his time — supporting with administration, operations, speaking directly with clients, and capturing photos to help us share our story.
Our kitchen assistant also volunteered weekly. Coming from a challenging background in Sierra Leone, this experience has helped him grow in confidence and build strong communication with customers and the public. Together, we served with heart, dignity, and respect.
3. What difference did the project make?
I’ve been supporting vulnerable individuals for years — providing hot meals, drinks, and even financial help when needed. Many visit me weekly, and this time the strength of the gesture truly made a difference. Our clients were pleased, surprised, and deeply appreciative.
We captured some of their feedback on video to share with you and on social media, while fully respecting those who preferred not to be photographed. Many are proud individuals facing personal challenges, and their privacy is always honoured.
What did we learn?
One thing that surprised us was how quickly some individuals became dependent on the generosity offered by the local council. Many face complex challenges — including unpredictable behaviour — and we always tried to respond with respect, patience, and human kindness.
There were mixed reactions from the community. Some felt that free meals encouraged volatility, while others appreciated the sense of family, unity, and togetherness that grew from this project. Despite the differences, many local people told us they loved seeing community spirit return to West Ealing — something they feel has been missing for a long time.
5. What next?
We’ve been doing this for years, and we will continue supporting our community with the resources we have, even as costs keep rising. Operating from a mobile trailer brings its own challenges — especially with supply issues and the difficulty of not having a permanent location, which we hope to secure one day, though it remains very expensive.
We’ve also noticed a growing number of elderly residents in need of support, and we do our best to help them too.
There are many elements that affect small businesses like ours, but our commitment to serving the community remains strong.
6. What would you say to anyone else looking to make a difference to their Town or take part in Your Voice Your Town?
Challenges will come, and obstacles will always present themselves, but you must keep people’s hope in humanity alive. Remember that any one of us could have been in the same position as those we support. Stay committed, stay compassionate, and continue the good fight — your effort truly matters.
