Blair Peach Primary School wins grant to install CCTV!-Your Voice Your Town

  1. Who we are

This project is led by Blair Peach Primary School, a local community primary school at the heart of Southall. We are a large, diverse and inclusive school serving children and families from the surrounding neighbourhood.

The project is being developed by the school’s senior leadership team, in partnership with our governing body, local residents, and community safety partners. As a school, we take our responsibility beyond the school gates seriously and work closely with families, neighbours and local agencies to promote safety, wellbeing and pride in our local environment.

  1. What are we going to do?

We plan to install CCTV cameras to monitor the canal side and nearby alleyway adjacent to the school site. These areas have been repeatedly affected by anti‑social behaviour and fly‑tipping, which impacts the safety, cleanliness and wellbeing of the whole community.

The CCTV system will:

  • Act as a deterrent to anti‑social behaviour and illegal dumping
  • Provide evidence where incidents do occur
  • Support safer access routes for pupils, families and local residents
  • Help protect the local environment and public spaces

All CCTV use will be GDPR‑compliant, proportionate, and focused solely on safeguarding people and property.

  1. Why do we want to do this?

The canal side and alleyways are regularly used by:

  • Children and families travelling to and from school
  • Local residents accessing shared spaces
  • Community members using the canal for walking and wellbeing

Unfortunately, ongoing fly‑tipping and anti‑social behaviour have made these areas feel unsafe and neglected. As a school committed to safeguarding children and strengthening our community, we believe this project is necessary to:

  • Improve safety and reassurance for everyone
  • Reduce environmental damage and clean‑up costs
  • Promote respect for shared spaces
  • Support positive behaviour and community pride

This project aligns with our values of responsibility and courage.

  1. What are we most excited about the project?

We are most excited about the positive long‑term impact this project can have. In particular:

  • Creating safer routes for children and families
  • Seeing a reduction in fly‑tipping and anti‑social behaviour
  • Strengthening trust and partnership between the school, residents and local services
  • Helping the canal side become a space that feels welcoming, clean and valued

  • Ultimately, we are excited about playing a proactive role in improving the quality of life for our whole community.

How you can help

Please feedback to the school as to whether you are finding an increase or decrease in the anti-social behaviour and fly tipping – either down the alleyway or canalside.
