Schoolreader volunteer

Schoolreaders is a national literacy charity dedicated to helping children improve their reading and comprehension skills. We recruit, train, and match volunteers with local primary schools, where they provide one-on-one reading support to children who need it most.

Volunteers visit their matched school once a week for an hour or two during the school day where they work individually with children to help improve their reading ability and also their enjoyment of reading. Research shows that fewer and fewer children are reading for pleasure so volunteers spending 1:1 time with a child to enjoy books together is invaluable.

Volunteers need to be over 18, have a good level of spoken and written English and enjoy spending time with children.

Our volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one hour each week for a full year during term time (although holidays can of course be taken). Volunteers will undergo an Enhanced DBS check, which is organised by the school.
