Volunteer Book Sorting Taster Session
Join us for a fun and rewarding book-sorting event and help us put more books into the hands of children and families who need them most!
We’d love to welcome you to our volunteering taster session on Wednesday 14th October at 10am and introduce you to the Children’s Book Project.
Nearly one million children in the UK do not own a single book of their own. We believe every child deserves the chance to grow up surrounded by stories and feel proud to be a reader.
The Children’s Book Project is a registered charity working with settings across the UK to redistribute thousands of pre-loved and surplus books to the children and families who need them most.
During term time, we run volunteer book-sorting sessions every day from 10:00am to 3:00pm. This taster session is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about our book gifting programme, meet our friendly team, and see first-hand the impact our volunteers make in local communities.
We hope that after attending a few sessions, you’ll choose to become part of our wonderful volunteer community, ideally joining us at least twice a month.
What to Expect
Our group volunteering sessions are fun, welcoming, well-organised, and genuinely meaningful. You’ll get hands-on with a variety of activities that directly help children and families access books and develop a love of reading.
We’re especially excited to welcome volunteers to our brilliant new home at Unit 9 Kendal Court, Kendal Avenue, Park Royal, W3 0RU. We have lots of books to prepare and plenty of schools waiting to receive them, so it’s an especially busy and exciting time for us.
Activities on the day will include:
- Sorting and reviewing donations of pre-loved books
- Categorising and packing books ready for gifting
- Preparing book collections for local schools and families
- Creating celebratory bunting and special touches to accompany donations
Please wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes, and bring your own lunch to enjoy on site.
Tube stations Park Royal and West Acton are only a 12 minute walk away.
We’d Love You to Join Us!
We’re a friendly, welcoming team and are always looking for individuals and groups who want to make a positive difference in their community. No previous experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
If you can’t make the session on Wednesday 14th October, please get in touch. We’d still love to hear from you, and we have other volunteering opportunities available throughout the week.
Come along, meet the team, make new friends, and help us get thousands of books into the hands of local children. We’d be absolutely thrilled to welcome you and share the difference you’re helping to make!
