About Town Teams

Town Teams are the local decision-making group for Your Voice, Your Town. There is one in each of the borough’s 7 towns. It sets priorities and brings people together to take action and make a real difference locally.

Joining a Town Team is a great way to get involved in your local area and help shape what happens next. You’ll meet new people, bring your ideas to life, and play a direct role in improving your community.

Anyone can apply, as long as you live, work or study in the town you’re applying to.

What you’ll do as a Town Team member

Town Team members are volunteers who join a Town Team in their area and work together to achieve shared local goals. Their role is to spot opportunities and help the community to turn great ideas into action.

Town Teams are made up of a diverse range of residents, community groups, faith groups, businesses and councillors, who bring different views and experiences to the team. As a Town Team member you will:

  • attend regular meetings and events
  • manage a community fund which includes promotion, reviewing applications and allocating funds to community projects
  • work with other Town Team members on shared priorities and actions
  • work with local people, communities and organisations to take action on shared priorities
  • support new activities that help local people develop ideas, understand processes and take action

What we ask of you

  • attend a minimum of 2 evening meetings per month (1 online, 1 in-person)
  • make fair, open and transparent decisions
  • support diversity and inclusion in all Town Team activities
  • use your skills and strengths to build connections within and between communities
  • treat council officers, fellow members, residents and partners with kindness and respect
  • respect confidentiality and not share information or discussions without consent
  • commit to and follow the Town Team’s ways of working
  • sign a participation agreement

What’s the time commitment for a Town Team member?

Town Teams typically meet 2-4 hours a month, including a short online meeting, and a monthly in-person session.

Additional time may be needed depending on a team’s priorities. For example, members might help organise or attend local events, promote their community fund, or connect with local groups.

Some members choose to review funding applications, which can take several hours. Others visit funded projects to see and support the impact of their work.

Each Town Team plans its activities together and agrees what members are able to commit to.

How will Town Team members be selected?

People will be selected based on their different backgrounds and connections to their town e.g. links to local groups and organisations, ensuring a diverse mix in each Town Team. People will also be selected based on their passion for taking forward positive action and working alongside others productively.

This is intended to be an open and inclusive approach, and we will consider:

Where people live in each of the towns
We want to make sure the process is fair and reaches people from all parts of the town.

People’s backgrounds and experiences
Community action works best when it brings together people with different perspectives, experiences and ideas. We want the Town Teams to reflect the people who live in the town. We also want to make sure the process is fair and open, so we’re thinking about who can take part — and who might be missing out.

The different networks and communities that you are part of
It’s important that the Town Team includes people who can connect with different parts of the community – whether that’s sports groups, faith groups, or residents’ associations. We also know there are lots of active groups in our towns, so it’s important that the Town Team isn’t made up of just one group or organisation. This helps make sure it reflects a wider range of perspectives.

Your reasons for wanting to be part of the Town Team
Your application will be reviewed by 3 council officers. Two will be from the Your Voice, Your Town Team, and one will be from a different team to provide an independent view. None of the officers involved will live in the town or have formal connections to any local organisations or groups that are applying.

Your application will then be reviewed by 3 members of Ealing Council staff (council officers). Two will be from the team supporting Your Voice, Your Town, and one will be independent of the process (e.g. from HR, legal or finance). None of the officers involved in the process will live in the town or have connections to local organisations or groups.

If you have any questions or concerns about applying please do get in touch, as we don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t get involved.

Hear from current Town Team members

Over the last year almost 100 people have acted as Town Team members across our 7 towns. You can meet the current Town Team members via your town’s page.

“I joined the Your Voice Your Town Hanwell team through my work at Mahaba Cafe, a not-for-profit coffee shop on Singapore Road. My background is in marketing and community engagement, and while my connection to Hanwell originally came through work, the Town Team gave me the chance to experience the area in a completely different way. Being part of the Town Team has been such a positive experience, I loved every second of it, and I’d definitely encourage others to get involved. I'm really looking forward to welcoming new members to the team. ”
