Meet Southall's Town team

Driving change in Southall

Southall’s Town Team has 25 members – a diverse mix of people all passionate about Southall and working together to make real change.

If you want to know more about what the Town Team does please get in touch and add Southall Town Team in the subject line.

“Growing up in Southall, I have seen the impact the significant changes of the last decade have had.”

Last year I was the Head Boy at Dormers Wells High School where I started and worked on the creation of a mental health centre in Southall. This rewarding process developed my skills in planning and collaboration and allowed me to work with organisations from schools to charities to efficiently deliver the best outcome. I am deeply invested in the ongoing changes in Southall and am passionate about ensuring that meaningful projects create positive outcomes.

Alexander Frank
Alexander Frank

Resident and Director and trustee of Southall Community Alliance

“Members of Southall Residents' Alliance have lived experience of fly-tipping. We aim to influence the decision making to fund initiatives which have been proven to reduce fly-tipping. ”

We are motivated to ensure that funding is spent on measures to at least partially achieve the objective of a clean and pleasant Southall. We advocate and take action on behalf of marginalised residents and look forward to working with other team members to ensure that funding will lead to a sustainable improvement in Southall’s environment.

“I have been a resident in Southall for many years. Along with other residents, we maintained the cleanliness of the area. When I look around today, I am embarrassed to say I live in Southall. I would like to be in a Team to make the area clean again.”

Having lived in Southall for many years, I look around now and see how the area has changed. Cleanliness has gone. Any unwanted home items are discarded on the pavements. No one seems to care anymore.

I contact the Council whenever I any fly tipping around.
I’m pleased to say these items are usually collected in 48 hours.

Angela Greenidge

Resident and member of the Catholic women’s League

“We encourage residents to contribute in getting more involved in community engagement projects by taking action. This could be volunteering or paid projects but ultimately with the goal of making Southall a more safe, more cleaner, more pleasant place to be living.”

We are working with many organisations and community groups for the physical and mental wellbeing of residents in the community e.g Southall Community Alliance, Peabody, Canal River Trust, TGQ Parkside and we help and support the community.

“I strongly belief bringing community together with common and shared values, Southall can be vibrant, diverse and better place for all residents. ”

Idris Aden Ali

Resident

“I believe real change happens through collaboration, and I want to work with others to ensure Southall is heard, valued and improved through inclusive action and long-term community-led solutions. ”

I am engaged in a range of community networks and partnerships that reflect the diverse needs and voices of Southall residents. I want to join the Southall Town Team to ensure that these voices of the vulnerable, the elderly, the disabled and the migrant residents are included in decisions.

Southall has strong community spirit and potential. After over 20 years of grassroots work, I have seen both the resilience of local people and the lack of investment and recognition.

Issack Olow

Volunteer Manager at HADEA (Horn of Africa Disability and Elderly Association)

“Southall is great but can be so much better, its my home, work and passion but is being let down by what should not be issues such as littering, fly tipping and ASB. This needs to be addressed and we need to work together to find both short term and long term solutions.”

As well as my involvement with Southall Community Alliance, I have contacts with Greenford High School, Friends of Grand Union, parkrun, and parkplay

Jags Sanghera

Resident and Chair of Southall Community Alliance

“we are also keen to promote 'Destination Southall'. This means promoting the best of Southall and encouraging people to visit the town and to re-build pride in our area. am motivated by knowing that this change can only be achieved by working in partnership and by seeking to make a difference in Southall, even if the first steps are small ones.”

Southall Community Alliance (SCA) is the key infrastructure group working in and for Southall, working with numerous organisations on quality of life issues.

We hope that this team, with its focus upon environmental improvement, will improve the streetscape of Southall, as this will build community confidence amongst residents that they are being heard and reassure people, particularly young people, that Southall is a safe and welcoming town.

Janpal Basran
Janpal Basran

Resident and Manager of Southall Community Alliance,

“My approach is straightforward and human, I stand on humanitarian values, not religion or politics. ”

My goal is simple, to make Southall a better, cleaner and safer place to live and work. I am fed up with fly tipping, open drug use in our parks and antisocial behaviour that drags our community down.

I also care about helping people who have fallen on hard times, because nobody chooses to be homeless or forgotten. My approach is straightforward and human, I stand on humanitarian values, not religion or politics.

Being an artist, marketer and creative director by profession, I’ve managed many high profile campaigns across the globe. I can bring my skills and unique perspective on how we can best leverage our resources to get the job done.

Jatinder Rajput

Resident and Southall Residents Alliance

“To work towards overcoming what can appear to be a split community, notably shown up by anti-social behaviour, some criminal, some not acceptable.”

Motivated by the loss by some of the fundamental right to housing on account of their lack of immigration status; I would like to see an initiative in which local businesses offered training to those prevented by law from being employed.

John Murphy

Secretary of Hope for Southall Street Homeless

“Working together with other local residents, organisations, and the council, I hope to contribute practical ideas and positive action that can make a real difference to the place we all call home.”

I have lived in Southall for over 25 years and care deeply about our community. Through my involvement in local clubs and activities, I’ve seen both the strengths of our area and the growing challenges we face. I want to be part of the Southall Team to help make our neighbourhood cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.

Having lived in Southall for nearly 50 years, I have developed a deep understanding of the diverse communities here and the challenges they face today. Throughout this time, I have worked with various religious groups and organizations, which has enriched my perspective on our shared issues.
