Don’t miss it — to miss it, is to miss out!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this possible — especially to The Hobbayne Charity, for their generous support.
This launch event simultaneously celebrates the creation of The Music, an illuminated sign opposite the Clocktower designed by de Pass Montgomery to celebrate the materials, typography, and architecture of Hanwell’s high street. The message is drawn from the words of local businesses and residents who shared their thoughts and their creativity with commissioned poet Shagufta Iqbal as part of the Poetry High Streets engagement in February 2025. Hanwell wanted more lighting, in part to discourage anti-social behaviour, so an illuminated sign was designed for the Clocktower location. It was during this same period that the businesses learned the priority for Your Voice Your Town Hanwell was ‘Feeling Safe for All’, a priority that resonated with them.
The signs don’t just respond through their words to what local businesses said, but also in their function and location. Shagufta was told that the high street was poorly signposted from the station, and a painted sign, Village in the City, by Hanwell Station is a direct response to this.
The Town Team is therefore looking forward to connecting with the people involved in the Poetry High Streets project.
It doesn’t stop there — at the launch event, the Town Team will be recruiting volunteers and attending a variety of events and spaces to promote their work and the fund. If you want them to come to an event near you, please contact Evelyn Gloyn.
