Litter Pick and Love Your Planet

The project of litter picking was started by Mazen, a Year 1 student at West Acton Primary School.

He organised students to pick up litter in the area around the school. We delivered 15 litter picks in the area in front of West Acton Primary School along Noel Road, and the project finished with an Art Party to make art to stop littering. At the party, we also hosted litter games such as litter bean-bag toss, pin the litter on the earth, litter relay race, and litter bowling.

Children who joined the litter picking joined us at the Art Party.

The project made a big difference in West Acton, with the park areas along Noel Road in front of the school being noticeably cleaner and free of litter. We also had the chance to make connections with other students and join together on our weekend litter picks.

We learned that it is a lot of work to organise a community but that the outcome is more fun and can be bigger with more people helping out.

We will be continuing to litter pick by ourselves and we have encouraged the school to continue the project.

For anyone else looking to make a difference , we would want to say that you can definitely do it! It is a lot of fun to do projects with your friends and you feel more happy after seeing the difference you can make when working together.
