Earth Day to Harvest Day: Growing Together on Katherine Buchan Meadow

Ongoing Project

Our project began on Earth Day in April at Katherine Buchan Meadow. Families, children, young people, neighbours, new and old faces  joined us outdoors to connect with nature and each other.

We opened with a short led mindfulness meditation to help everyone slow down and take in their surroundings. There were then activities to engage with;  following a nature trail, enjoying making nature inspired clay creations, tried hapa zome printing and explored the wildlife through bug hunting. Everyone sowed pumpkin seeds to grow on either at home or on a given outdoor space through the summer.

The project was about bringing our community together in a safe, welcoming space. It encouraged people of all ages and cultures to enjoy nature, be creative and feel ownership of our urban meadow.

IMAGES TO BE ADDED – We need help with this.

The pumpkin‑growing part of the project now comes to an end this October. We will celebrate autumn, pumpkins and the slowing down of nature with a family‑friendly Harvest Day. We will also close the project with another short mindfulness meditation to reflect on the season and our shared journey.

If you sowed a pumpkin with us in April, we would love to hear how yours has grown. Your updates will help us plan the celebration and bring everyone’s growing stories together.

Everyone is welcome to join us on Harvest Day. It’s a chance to meet neighbours from the local and wider community, enjoy the meadow, and celebrate what we have grown together.
