Ongoing Project
We are Acton Gardening Association, a community‑led group supporting people to grow food in three allotment sites in Acton.
Our project focuses on something simple but important: water. Across the three allotment sites, we are installing large water‑butt containers to capture and store rainwater. This will allow plot holders to water their plants responsibly, without relying on mains water or carrying water long distances.
We want to improve access to water on the sites by installing large water‑butt containers to collect and store rainwater. This will make it easier for plot holders to water their plants without relying on mains water or carrying water long distances.
Allotments are important community spaces. They support wellbeing, local food growing, and everyday connection with nature. But limited access to water can be a barrier, particularly during dry periods and for gardeners with reduced mobility. By improving rainwater storage, we are making these shared spaces more practical, inclusive, and sustainable.
This project directly supports the Your Voice, Your Town – Acton priority of Clean and Pleasant. It encourages responsible water use, protects green spaces, and helps ensure these allotments remain welcoming and well cared for.
What we are most excited about is the long‑term impact. Once installed, the water butts will be available for everyone using the sites, supporting both current and future gardeners. It’s a simple change that helps people care for their plots and their neighbourhood.
