Northolt Walking Talking and Exploring-Your Voice Your Town

Ongoing Project

This project will deliver two guided walks in different parts of Northolt, namely:  West End Ward (Lime Tree Park and the Old Ruislip Road) on June 6th, and Mandeville Ward (Islip Manor Park and Northolt Village) on July 8th.

Our focus for each area we explore will be on how clean and pleasant the area feels to the participants and to those we might meet and how things can be improved.

The aim for all our walks is to find out about a lesser known area while bringing diverse people together to learn from and about one another.

The walks are short in distance with frequent stops and last about two hours starting at 11am on the day. They are followed by an optional stop at a local café to give people a further opportunity to socialize.

On the walks we will inform people about the history and the changes that have taken place in the given area as well as seek the opinions and observations of those present and their memories if they are older residents.

The walks will be led by Joanna Dudzinska, the founder of Talking and Exploring and of the Ealing Walking Talking and Exploring Group on Facebook, with the help of Anthony Smith and with the support from interested community members. The group is a space to keep in touch, share and to document our walks and events. All the walks are listed on the Talking and Exploring Eventbrite page, as well as on Facebook. You need to book your free ticket to join the walk.

The two Northolt walks will take place as follows:

  • West End Northolt on  Saturday June 6th. Meeting outside Northolt Library (Church Road) at 11am, then walking to and through Lime Tree park, crossing the Ruislip Road to a farm and then back to the Old Ruislip Road and finishing close to Yeading Lane.
  • Islip Manor and Northolt Village on Wednesday July 8th. Meeting at Northolt Station (Mandeville Road) at 11am, then walking to Islip Manor Park, crossing back over the Mandeville Road to Belvue Park and down to the canal, visiting places as we go.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        As stated above, the walks are advertised on the Talking and Exploring’s Eventbrite page.Usually we just advertise walks publicly but for these walks we have created both public and private tickets, with the private ones meant for individuals connected with local organisations who are or can be given the link for them. For each walk we would welcome the involvement of anyone who knows the particular area well. How you can help

We are rather limited in our IT,  graphic  and marketing skills so any help with putting together more appealing posters and other advertising materials for the walks would be gratefully appreciated. Besides, even with great advertising materials, it is hard to reach all those who might be interested in the walks. Hence, we would appreciate if you could pass on and share the information about our walks to your contact and through local organisations you are involved with. If you are a local organisation or business along any of the two routes in Northolt, then please get in contact and we can discuss how we can work together. On our walks, help is always useful in keeping the group together, marshalling people across roads and in engaging the participants in conversation so that everyone feels valued.
