Ongoing Project
We have some exciting news to share. Costons Lane Nature Reserve in Greenford is already a flourishing oasis for wildlife thanks to the efforts of our volunteers over the past few years, and now we’re about to transform the space even more.
We’re delighted to have received a grant from Ealing Council as part of the Your Voice Your Town Greenford Community Fund, which is funding our project “Costons Lane Nature Reserve: Enhancing Community Access.” The name says it all, really. This is about making the reserve work better for our Greenford Community, and anyone else who may want to join us.
What’s being built?
At the heart of the project is a new covered outdoor area, free to use and weatherproofed for the Great British climate. We want it to be a genuinely useful space: somewhere a school group can do a nature session without one eye on the sky, where a yoga teacher can hold an outdoor class, where neighbours can gather without needing the sun to cooperate. If you love the outdoors but have been put off by the unpredictability of it, this space is for you.
Where things stand
Work is already underway. Our volunteers have spent the last two monthly sessions tackling the area where the covered space will sit (and it was quite the challenge!). Towards the back of the site, it had become a dense thicket of brambles and wild rose. Thanks to some seriously impressive effort from our wonderful team of volunteers, it’s been cleared and the project is off to a brilliant start.
We’re also planting new trees around the perimeter of the site, adding to the greenery and giving the reserve a real sense of life and shelter as you move through it.
Why this matters
Costons Lane has always been a special place, a quiet patch of nature tucked into urban Greenford. This project is about making sure more people can enjoy it, more of the time. A free, accessible outdoor space in the heart of the community feels more important than ever, and we’re proud to be making it happen.
A huge thank you to Ealing Council for making this possible. We’ll be sharing updates on our website and social channels as the project progresses – follow along and come and see it for yourself when it’s ready. We can’t wait!
